How to Protect Your Family from the Petrochemical Carcinogen 1,4-Dioxane

What is 1,4-Dioxane?

Ethoxylation is a cheap shortcut process many companies use to provide mildness to harsh cleaning ingredients. This process requires the use of the cancer-causing petrochemical ethylene oxide, which generates 1,4-dioxane as a byproduct.

As it is considered a "contaminant", 1,4-dioxane is not included on product ingredient labels.

1,4-dioxane is considered a chemical “known to the State of California to cause cancer” under proposition 65, and is suspected as a kidney toxicant, neurotoxicant and respiratory toxicant, according to the California EPA. 1,4-dioxane is also a significant groundwater contaminant, according to The Environmental Working Group.
